Welcome to Skatershomebase! Im Anthony the owner and editor of this blog. Back in late 1987 at the high school I attended everyone started to notice a new trend emerging as more and more students started to bring and ride their boards to school. They seem to be getting alot of attention, looked cool and made the decision that I wanted in of this new craze. There were two guys that really stood out which was Tommy with his vision psychostick weird shaped board and his older cousin 3 grades up from us. Their influence was enough for me to purchase my first complete skateboard which was a variflex I purchased here in Sydney, Australia. Over the next 4 years I was heavily influenced by all things skateboarding, there was a local skate crew forming which I became apart of, spending hours a day learning and practicing tricks we observed from old school videos from the Bones Brigade, H – Street and numerous others. Many of use became obsessed taking it as far as intentionally skipping days at school to go skate. Trying to the best we could be meant everything to many of us as thats all we become to know. Unfortunately the popularity of skating started to take a dive and in late 1989 more and more of us were started to quit skating. Early 1991 was my final time to skate after some knee trouble from trying something on the jump ramp.
For the next 28 years I only picked up the board twice so you could say I was in a hiatus but during these tines I could recall the joy, the fun, and all those memories. I could honestly say it was the best years of my life. At 44 I said screw it , here Iam again, a different person but one that can bring some renewed passion, knowledge and experience to the world of skating. This time its been different as im continuing to skate in my early 50’s and doing it purely for the love of it. Its brought me better health, fitness and state of mind, All that with simply a piece of wood with 4 wheels, amazing that!
